The next time you’re near Sky Harbor International airport, stop at Angelo’s and grab a bite of Italian ice – it’ll be ready and waiting in your choice of four-ounce or three-gallon servings. Why the bulk quantities? Because proprietor Angelo Rana is a manufacturer, serving Valley restaurants like Marco’s Pizza, grocers like AJ’s Fine Foods and many of our major sports complexes. His biz has been a Valley institution since he relocated it from New York to Arizona in 1979. But the public is welcome to buy direct, too, in delicious flavors like rainbow citrus, watermelon, strawberry and lemon-lime with either sugar or Splenda. Angelo’s will even craft custom flavors, such as bubble gum, mint chip and, at the request of one client, olive oil. We didn’t try this last unique concoction, but we’ll take general manager Steve Black’s word that it was, “well, interesting.”
